Heroes on the Hospital Walls
Katy Wilson
My Story
On 11th April, I will be abseiling almost 70ft down the Great North Children’s Hospital to raise money for the Great North Children’s Hospital Fund. I am doing this in memory of my gorgeous cousin Lilly who passed away in January 2025.
Lilly was diagnosed with leukaemia in November 2024 and was sent straight to the children’s hospital to begin treatment, which was going well until she picked up an infection. During Lilly’s time in the GNCH she bravely battled through chemotherapy, countless scans, surgeries and dialysis. As a family we spent Christmas 2024 in the PICU and the support from the staff to try and make this day special highlighted the importance of the GNCH in such a hard time for my family. Lilly was in remission for leukaemia however lost her life from this infection on the 3rd January 2025.
I am hoping to raise as much money as possible to support families like my own that have been unfortunate enough to have a child need the care and support given at the GNCH.
